Learn and Memorize Anatomy and Physiology Terms the Easy Way

You are probably wondering if there any easy way to memorize anatomy and physiology terms. I wish there was some easy way. Back when I started studying the human anatomy I was one of those who had hard time memorizing those terms even in English not to mention Latin terms. I searched high and low for any method that could simplify the process of memorization for me. I have found a few simple tips that I want to share with you if you still have difficulties to memorize anatomy terms.

In my opinion human anatomy and physiology is a visual subject. It is better to learn it visually. If you have the opportunity to go to the lab and spend your time learning there it's the best way to study anatomy. Unfortunately not many of us have to opportunity to go to the lab. Therefore I chose to study anatomy on three dimensional rich-media visualization software. Do not underestimate the power of animation and illustration. This tip alone enabled me to learn human physiology and anatomy very rapidly.

Now back to the anatomy terms. It is not always easy to memorize such terms as fibula tibia. There is a huge list of such terms in anatomy. How do you memorize them? I use a tip they use to learn foreign language. Take number of index cards. Write the Latin term on one side of the card and it's meaning on other side. Start by looking at the word first, then flipping to the definition. Memorize the terms by going through the cards again and again. Alternate back and forth until you can define the term and then look at the definition first and name the term.

And last but not least you need to get a good anatomy and physiology study guide. It is very important to have a guide that holds you by your hand and walks you thorough the heap of information. To learn more techniques to memorize the terms visit Memorize Anatomy Terms

Picking the Right Anatomy and Physiology Study Guides Can Make All the Difference

Studying anatomy and physiology can be very frustrating. Have you ever searched for a simpler way to study anatomy? I went thorough the pain of memorizing mountains of medical terms. I must tell you it’s not a simple task to remember them even English not to mention the Latin terms. If you truly want to make your study easier then pay close attention to this article and it will make you one step close to your goal.

• First of all memorizing the term and its meaning is very similar to learning a foreign language. That’s why I have borrowed a tip to remember the words. Take a bunch of index cards and write down a term on one side of the card and its meaning on other side of it. Do it with all the terms you need to memorize. Now going through the cards one by one flipping them makes it much easier to memorize the terms. Alternate back and forth until you can give the meaning or the term and then look at the definition first and name the term.

• Second tip that was extremely helpful for me is to have some visualization of the human anatomy. You know that people receive the large portion of information from environment through eyes. Pictures and diagrams are good help. But I found even better solution. There are some pieces of software that show the three dimensional human skeletal and muscular structure. Never underestimate the power of animation. You will be surprised how easier it makes memorizing the bones and muscles of human body.

• Most importantly get yourself a good Anatomy and physiology study guide. I can not stress strong enough how crucial to your success in studying anatomy can be a great study course or guide. At least download your free copy of 3D human anatomy software at.

Simple Steps to Prepare for Anatomy Quizzes

Anyone who studies anatomy and physiology thinks that it’s as complex as something like nuclear physics. Whether you study anatomy or you teach it is very important to go through short quizzes that help to memorize anatomy terms. If you need to prepare for quizzes then keep reading this article I have a few tips for you to improve your results.

1). First of all make yourself a set of index cards that you will use for memorizing the terms. I know it is tough task to memorize mountains of terms that hard to keep in mind even in English not to mention you need the Latin names for them. So write the term on one side of the card and the definition on the other side of the card. If you are familiar with this process of learning the foreign words then you know what to do. Just keep going through the card flipping them back and forth until you are familiar with all the terms.

2). My second tip is also very important. You need to develop your quiz taking skills. It is interesting to note that with the same amount of knowledge you can have different result with the same quiz depending on your quiz taking skills. You need to develop a pattern that you will follow each time taking a quiz. Since you will be repeating the same pattern over and over again you will spend much less time taking quiz. That leaves you some time to double check your answers.

3). The next tip is to get some sort of human anatomy software. You can download it here Anatomy and Physiology Quizzes and Software. Also I would like to emphasize that having a good study guide is crucial for getting a good results in your tests and quizzes.

Tips to Memorize Directional Terms of Anatomy

I find that it's easiest to memorize the directional term in groups and pairs.

For example:
anterior/posterior: front/back They are opposites, so if you remember that anterior goes with posterior and you know that posterior is back, you will know that anterior must be front... at least that's the way I think about it.

The next two are
proximal/distal: closer to origin of body part/ further away from from the origin of the body part. The origin of the body part is where it connects to another body part or where it connects to the trunk of the body, whichever applies. I remember it like this: proximal is in close proximity to the origin, distal is distant from the origin.

The following pair is
superior/inferior:closer to the head/farther away from the head. For example, the neck is superior to the hips because it is closer to the head.

Next two are
superficial/deep:can be seen with the naked eye/can not be seen with the naked eye. Superficial veins are seen through the skin, deep veins are not visible.

medial/lateral/intermediate: towards the midiline/away from the midline/in the between medial and lateral structures. I remember it like this, medial is towards the middle. Lateral is the opposite, so away from the middle of the body, and intermediate is in between.

If they are grouped like this, it is much easier for me, personally, to memorize them. They are grouped on their relation to each other, so they should help.

How to Memorize Anatomy and Physiology Terms

If you study anatomy then you know from that memorizing those anatomy and physiology terms can be very hard and painful.

I study physiology and anatomy myself and I know it's not an easy subject. What makes it especially hard it the need to memorize tons and tons of terms. It hard to keep them all in mind even in English let alone the Latin terms. Here I outlined a few steps that I hope will help you to memorize those anatomy terms.

Download you Anatomy and Physiology study guide.
Make Visual Aids to Help to Memorize Anatomy and Physiology Terms
It can be overwhelming just to read those huge anatomy textbooks, so use visuals to help you
You know that human receive the most of the information in visual form. That's why using visual figures and pictures is the best way to study anatomy.

I found even better way to study anatomy. There is a free software on human skeletal and muscular structure that helped me tremendously in my study. Click on the image below to download your free copy of this software.

It was made for artist but I found that it very well suit to anyone who studies the human anatomy, particularly bone and muscular structure of the body.

Actually How to Memorize Anatomy and Physiology Terms
You need to create certain rules to help you to memorize them
When I'm learning new things I always try to create some rules that will help me to remember these new things.

For example in study of anatomy I learned to create groups and pairs that easy to remember.

For example: proximal/distal - closer to origin of body part/ farther from the origin of the body part The origin of the body part is where it connects to another body part or where it connects to the trunk of the body, whichever applies. I remember it like this: proximal is in close proximity to the origin, distal is distant from the origin.

Another good example is superior/inferior -closer to the head/farther away from the head. For example, the neck is superior to the hips because it is closer to the head.

The most important thing is to have fun when you memorize those terms that sound so funny.

Now Take Tests. It is the Only Way to Perfectly Memorize Anatomy and Physiology Terms. To make skills perfect you need to take tests again and again. You probably heard that repetition is mother of the skill. I say that taking test is father of the skill. To memorize the anatomy terms correctly go ahead and take tests here.

You can even play a game with your friend to find out who better memorizes the anatomy and physiology terms.
